Tribute by Neville Hay
Worshipful Brother, John Charles Hackett, passed away on 27th December 2020 at his home in Sutton Park Road Kidderminster.
W. Bro. John was initiated into Minster Lodge No. 5581 on 17th November 1965, proposed by my late father, W. Bro. John H.R. Hay and myself. He became Master of Minster in 1977 and again in 1999. He was P.G. Treasurer in 1982 and 1983 and was appointed P.A.G.D.C. in 1997 holding the same rank in Royal Arch.
I have known John since he was around 7 years old and our parents shared a lifelong interest in the Theatre. John, his father, Charles and mother, Linda were members of the Nonentities in Kidderminster and were heavily involved in the Playhouse Theatre which subsequently became the Rose Theatre. It was through the Nonentities that John met his wife, Diana, when both became very active members of the Society. John and I remained close friends through our lives.
John was educated at Seabright School, Wolverley, and qualified as a chartered accountant a few years later. He latterly specialised in assisting members of the acting profession, helping many famous names through the tangled web of taxation.
He was a keen rugby player in his youth and his love of the written word saw him become a prolific writer throughout his life. John’s love of acting allowed him to learn and display his mastery of Masonic ritual on many occasions throughout a very long career.
Our deepest sympathy to his wife, Diana, and his daughter, Fiona.
