Robert was born in Birmingham and brought up there and also near to Bromsgrove. His schooling was at King Edward VI Camp Hill Grammar School in Birmingham and, until retirement, he practised as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. He is married with two sons and a Grandson.
A Lewis, Robert was initiated in Lodge of St George No. 5691 by his father-in-law and was the Master in 1982 and again in 2001. He is a founder of three other Worcestershire lodges - all of which he has been Master, as well as in Worcestershire Installed Masters’ lodge. He was appointed Provincial Grand Steward in 1984 and Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 1986, following which he became an Assistant Provincial Grand Master, then Deputy in 2002 and Provincial Grand Master in 2013.
He was exalted into the Chapter of St George in 1982 and was MEZ in 1987 and 2013. He was appointed Provincial Grand Scribe Nehemiah in 1990 and subsequently Past Grand Sword Bearer and Deputy Grand Sword Bearer. He is an active member of several other Masonic Degrees and Orders.
When time allows he is a follower of cricket and rugby, enjoys cycling and pottering with his classic and “interesting” cars, finding steam railways to explore and the joys of hot air ballooning.
