50 years and counting, and a surprise for WBro Antony Watt

At the Severn Lodge No. 5583 21st Virtual Zoom Meeting (Christmas Party) they were able to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of WBro Antony Campbell Watt.

The proceedings started with WBro Ken Prosser providing a reflection on Antony: “His was the friendly face that greeted everyone. He recognised the qualities that define this Lodge. Friendly, Charitable, Funny, Warm and Willing. What he perhaps didn’t recognise that those were his innate qualities too and he was transmitting them to the brethren of the Lodge, from the grandest to the humble Initiate.

What I didn’t know all those year ago was that I was in the presence of probably the best Lodge Almoner in any Lodge in the land. His failing health, which he’d never admit to, meant that after 25 years he had to relinquish the post. He’s ‘old school’, and if the Master asks for help or for volunteers, Tony will be amongst the first to put his hand up.”

The RW Provincial Grand Master Robert Christopher Vaughan then "virtually" presented a 50 year certificate (delivered earlier in the day pictured above).

This detailed WBro Antony's initiation into Dunkwa-on-Offin Lodge, Ghana, (Scottish Constitution) in 1969. This was when Antony was working for a bank and was based out in Ghana. He then went on to join Sekondi Lodge, also in Ghana, (this time in the English Constitution) on 12th December 1970. Finally, upon returning to the UK he joined Severn Lodge No. 5583 on 27th April 1973 and had progressed to PPrJGW. The Certificate additionally recorded Companion Antony's membership of the Holy Royal Arch and Severn Chapter progressing to PPrGSwdB.

The PGM was then delighted to announce that in recognition of WBro Antony's dedication to the Lodge and to the Craft he was promoting him to PPrSGW with immediate effect. This was applauded and toasted by the brethren. A wonderful recognition of so many years of service to the craft.
